35 Child-Friendly Songs About Social and Racial Justice

Racial discrimination and injustice in this country are not new.  It’s been happening for more than 400 years with Black people and other people of color being the targets.  However, with technology being at the fingertips of many people, we are seeing more and more recorded videos of these instances.  Recently, videos of George Floyd and news of Breonna Taylor have flooded social media and news outlets all over the world sparking outrage, disgust, and fear.  Subsequently, peaceful demonstrations and protects have spread as more and more people demand changes in our justice, social, and financial systems.

When oppressed people demand justice and accountability, those who benefit from racist practices or are comfortable with the status quo are often filled with even more hatred and bitterness.  This makes for a very combustible situation, which we are seeing play out before our eyes right now.   Music is one of the things that unites us all.  It teaches and it heals.  Here, I share with you some of our favorites songs for liberation and justice.  I hope that these songs spark conversations toward understanding and the commitment towards equality.  Enjoy!
